Flamingos in flying umbrellas
Why shouldn't flamingos be allowed to fly in umbrellas?
And why couldn't brightly colored macaws be on their way to a circus deep in the jungle?
For this lamp base, I let my imagination run completely wild.
The illustrations tell a story of travel, adventure, and wonder. The colorful macaws are inspired by Suriname, a country that holds a special place in my heart. The palm trees refer to Asia, a continent where I have traveled a lot. Palm trees therefore keep returning in my work; to me, they symbolize freedom, discovery, and the feeling that the world is bigger than your daily environment.
My travels always find their way back into the clay, where memories, impressions, and fantasy come together.
This lamp base is entirely hand-built from clay slabs, then painted and glazed layer by layer. From the shape to the smallest details, everything is handmade. This makes it a unique piece that exists nowhere else.
Extra special: this is the very first lamp base I ever made. The beginning of a new series in which ceramics, stories, and fantasy come together.
